Urban structure can be best understood in terms of Adaptive Networks, Complexity Theory, Biological Systems, and Self-organization. A city planned according to these principles is more human, livable, and sustainable; it validates spontaneous self-built settlements; and rejects the top-down industrial-modernist model.
